Treatments Offered

Professional Counseling/Psychotherapy

Counseling is a treatment process which provides a supportive, confidential space for individuals to gain insight into their struggles, develop skills to enhance overall well-being, heal from past trauma, and work toward positive change. Through various evidence-based techniques, counselors help individuals explore their thoughts, feelings, and past experiences.  The goal is to explore personal challenges, improve mental health, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and promote personal growth.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a therapeutic approach primarily used with children to help them express and process their emotions, thoughts, and experiences through play. Since children often have difficulty verbalizing their feelings, play therapy provides them with a safe and creative outlet to explore and communicate. Using toys, games, art, and other playful activities, therapists guide children in understanding and resolving emotional issues, trauma, or behavioral challenges. Play therapy helps children develop coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and work through difficult experiences in a non-threatening and supportive environment.

Sand Tray Therapy

Sand Tray Therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses a sandbox and miniature figures to help individuals, particularly children, express and explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Sand tray therapy allows for non-verbal expression and can be particularly effective for processing trauma, emotional conflicts, and developmental issues, providing a safe space for clients to explore difficult emotions.

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback uses real-time monitoring and feedback of brainwave activity to help individuals regulate their brain function. By measuring brain waves through sensors placed on the scalp, neurofeedback provides visual or auditory signals that guide individuals to increase or decrease certain types of brain activity. This process helps improve mental clarity, emotional regulation, focus, and can be effective in treating conditions such as anxiety, ADHD, insomnia, and trauma. Neurofeedback aims to promote healthier brain functioning by training the brain to operate more efficiently and balance its electrical activity.

Therapeutic Approaches Used

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and actions, aiming to break the cycle of distress by replacing unhelpful thinking with more balanced, realistic perspectives. CBT is effective for treating a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress, by teaching practical skills to manage symptoms and improve overall well-being.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) - a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic memories. It involves the use of bilateral stimulation, while the client recalls distressing events. This process helps to reprocess the memories, reducing their emotional charge and enabling individuals to integrate them in a healthier way. EMDR is commonly used to treat trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and other emotional difficulties, and is known for its ability to produce rapid and lasting improvements in mental health.

Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST) - a trauma-informed approach to therapy, which works with emotional and somatic memories. This approach focuses on safety, stability, and emotional regulation. The goal is to provide a supportive, structured environment where clients can process traumatic memories at their own pace, while developing coping strategies to manage distressing emotions. TIST emphasizes building trust, understanding the impact of trauma on the mind and body, and fostering resilience.  TIST is an integrative method drawing on ideas and techniques from Internal Family Systems, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, clinical hypnosis, and mindfulness-based psychotherapy.  It is particularly useful for individuals with complex trauma, helping them establish a sense of safety and stability.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy - a therapeutic approach that focuses on understanding and healing the different "parts" or aspects within a person. According to IFS, each person has various internal parts (for example a self-critical part), which influence thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The goal of IFS is to help individuals identify, understand, and harmonize these parts, particularly by fostering a compassionate relationship with them. By addressing internal conflicts and promoting self-leadership, IFS helps people heal from trauma, reduce inner conflict, and achieve greater emotional balance.

Somatic Therapies - therapeutic approaches that focus on the connection between the body and mind to help individuals process and heal from trauma, stress, and emotional difficulties. These therapies recognize that trauma and negative emotions can become stored in the body, affecting physical sensations, movement, and overall well-being. Somatic therapies aim to help individuals become more attuned to their physical sensations, promoting emotional regulation, stress relief, and a greater sense of body-mind integration.

Polyvagal Techniques - therapeutic methods, which focus on regulating the autonomic nervous system to promote emotional well-being and safety. These techniques aim to activate the body’s parasympathetic nervous system to shift from a state of stress or trauma response to one of calm and connection. These methods help individuals regulate their emotional and physical responses, improve resilience, and enhance overall mental health.
